Mood:
Hi there.
My name's Mike.
I'm in a band.
A band of middle-aged guys...OK, so Paul isn't middle-aged yet, but close...
We're a bunch of Montreal-west-island, working guys who love music and are getting back into jamming and soon (hopefully) gigging.
...and we need a name. A good name. A name that has some kind of meaning, memorable.
A name that rocks.
Meaning and memorable don't necessarily go together: sometimes you can take the meaningless and make it memorable (like the Silver Beatles a.k.a. the Beatles, or Coldplay...what does that name mean?).
I had thought "the Blokes" would be good name for our band: a bunch of English-speaking guys in Quebec.
In Quebec "Bloke" has two meanings: the English origin of the word bloke is "a guy", just an ordinary guy.
But in Quebec--particulalrly among French-speaking people--"Bloke" has come to mean somone conservative, even blockheaded(!)...which is how many French Quebecers view English Quebecers.
So I thought we should call ourselves "the Blokes": we're Blokes and we're proud.
But the other blokes in the band (Peter, Paul and Will) don't like it. They've made suggestions like "The Benders" or "Facing West".
Got any better ideas? Please post them here. All names will be considered and the winner will receive a free, autographed-by-the-band T-shirt featuring the name you suggested.
I'll be posting member bios, and upcoming-gig information, as well as pix in the coming days.
